It always helps to have some advice along the way. If you are a first time user of fake tan please read on for some essential help and advice. If you are a regular user of fake tan, again please read on as you can always learn more for creating the perfect look with your fake tan products.

1. Preparation- before applying Fake Tan

It may sound like an obvious tip but trying to regularly keep your skin in good condition will help your cause when it comes to applying Fake Tan. Moisturise every day when you step out the shower or before bed. Patchy, dry skin just won’t respond well to Fake Tan and you will not achieve that glow you desire from your fake tan product.

2. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate - before Fake Tan

We’re sure you’ve heard this one many times before, but we can’t stress enough just how important it is to gently scrub skin before you self tan, to lift all those dead skin cells and reveal revitalised, ready-to-tan skin beneath. Applying fake tan to dry, uneven skin will simply leave you looking patchy and is enough to ruin many an occasion !!

3. Moisturise ?? - (BEWARE- read the instructions first on the bottle)

Be sure to moisturise your body top-to-toe before you apply fake tan, but do remember to let it fully sink in before you begin applying your fake self tan. Be sure to pay particular attention to wrists, elbows, ankles, knees and feet. Any areas that can get dry and need extra moisture.

4. Latex gloves/Applicator mitt

The tell-tale sign you’ve been cheating is so often the orange-tinted palms. To avoid this, get into the habit of applying fake tan wearing latex gloves. It seems strange at first, but after a couple of applications it’ll become second nature. Remove the gloves and use cotton wool pads to apply a small amount of tan to the back of each hand. Alternatively use a professional Applicator mitt, like the one we supply from He-Shi Fake Tan range of products.

5. Fake Tan your Back !!

Ideally you need someone to apply your fake tan product to the back area. There are brushes available on the market so you can apply fake tan to the hard to reach areas, however, we really do recommend a friend !!

6. Apply Vaseline Jelly on eyebrows and hair line

An excellent fake tan tip, is dotting a small amount of Vaseline along your brows and next to your hair line. Tanning the face should be treated with caution and dabbing Vaseline Jelly means that any slip of the hand when applying Fake Tan will prevent unsightly marks appearing in these areas.

7. Buffing Mitts !!

When Fake Tanning professionals want to ensure fake tan is perfectly applied and avoid any sign of patchiness, they don a buffing mitt and gently dab away at any build up of tan, to spread it evenly and avoid varying shades.

8. Wear loose, dark clothing afterwards

In an ideal world we would be able to wander around naked after applying fake tan, but in reality life is too busy for most people these days. The number one rule of dressing after fake tan is to wear dark, loose clothing to avoid marking any of your best clothes.

9. Exfoliate & Moisturise to maintain that fake tan.

Now your fake tan has developed and you’re happy with the results, the work doesn’t stop there! Stay glowing for longer by maintaining a strict routine of gentle exfoliation and lots more moisturising.

10. Buy more Fake Tan and return to Step 1

It wont last forever, so we are sorry you will have to come back and buy more fake tan products to keep that all year round fake tan glow !
